Capt. Dave Kostyo
March 2, 2016
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

How quickly time flies. Another month is behind us and it's time to catch up again with the fishing action off the Miami/Miami Beach coast.

Offshore, the weather has ranged from almost calm seas to rough washing machine like wave action. We've had our share of cold fronts that have had early morning temperatures in the upper 40's to low 50's.

The fishing action has been a mixed bag of species that have covered the range from sailfish, kingfish, grouper, snapper, mahi, bonito, and sharks.

I've had many anglers who have caught their first fish of different species and have checked them off their bucket list.

Inshore for tarpon, we've had several evenings when the water temperature has come into play. On every trip we've managed to hook at least one tarpon. At the end of the month (February) the tarpon have finally shown up in good numbers. Once the tide changes, they disappear. In the meantime, the snook have been co-operating nicely and we even had a nice surprise with a cubera snapper.

Miami Fishing Forecast:

March should see continued mixed bag action offshore. Fishing several different techniques should give you that variety.

Tarpon action will improve greatly and evenings with numerous hook ups will become more common.
