Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
Down here in sunny South Florida we often complain about are fishing not being as good as we'd like. The reality is that we're actually a little bit spoiled. While the rest of the country is dealing with sub zero temps, icy roads, and blizzard like conditions I'm sitting here writing this report in a comfortable 75 degrees and clear skies. Yes, the fishing hasn't been red hot but boy has the weather been nice. We've caught fish on every trip, just not the quantity or species that we usually prefer.
Offshore the fishing has been a little tough but with a little hard work it has paid off. On most full day trips we've been getting between 1 and 3 shots at sailfish per day. We've also caught some bonito, grouper, and mutton snapper. Deep water wrecks have been holding some jacks and vermillion snapper.
Closer to shore the tarpon fishing has been a little unpredictable. Again, some nights they're hungry and aggressive and then on another night they have lockjaw. Just like with the sailfish you sometimes have to work a little harder to get them to bite.
On a very positive note, I got a report late today that the sailfish bite had turned on and that some boats were getting multiple shots and racking up some very respectable numbers. It is this kind of fishing that we have come to expect during the month of February. Hopefully, this is sign of more good things to come. Also pretty soon, large kings, blackfin tuna, and mahi will begin to show up.
