Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing lately has been a lot better than business. Every trip is another success story.
We had great swordfish action in October, but winds have kept us away from swordfish lately. Ben had tried for swordfish several times. His last trip he fought a 200 pound swordfish to the leader only to have the hook pull. But finally he got his swordfish a little later in the day.
Our last swordfish was a big event for us, as it was our first using a Hooker Electric motor attached to our Penn International 80 as a downrigger. Scott Nichols caught the fish on a Penn International 70. One more fish of the 9 billfish of the world he is trying to catch this year.
Our last tarpon trip produced 3 tarpon. We did go one more time. On that trip Nickel caught a feisty tarpon on the first drift and then the rain came pouring down and we headed home.
We were forced to fish the bay on Friday as the winds blew about 35. Our Dolphin fan group caught numerous grouper, a couple mutton snapper and a ladyfish.
Saturday Peter and Gary caught 3 sailfish, 4 sharks, a mahi, a cobia, an almaco jack, a tuna and several bonito.
Then Sunday I fished with Marty and Martini and we caught 2 cobia, 3 small mutton snappers, a bunch of yellowtail snapper and blue runners, several bonito, a small kingfish, 3 spanish mackerel, an amberjack and a nice grey grouper.
My favorite trip last week was a "Fish to Make a Difference" trip with Marlin, Brandon, Arissa and their parents. We got a tip that there were a lot of mackerel in the cut. It was a great tip. We caught over 30 spanish mackerel, several blue runners, a few nice sea trout and lots of huge smiles.
Miami Fishing Forecast:
look for plenty of sailfish, mackerel and tarpon action for the holidays
Target Species:
sailfish, tarpon, mahi, grouper and swordfish
