It is on in Flamingo! Get Em Sportfishing Charters!

Capt. Alan Sherman

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Summer came early this year no wait we never had a winter or a spring just summer since January! So now it's hot and we have these thunderstorms that come barreling in from the Glades almost every afternoon. So what's that got to with the fishing! Nothing! Everything! It all depends on where you are when you go fishing! My philosophy when it comes to fishing is keeping things simple. Fish for the fish that are available, go where the fish are biting, use the tackle that makes it a challenge to catch the fish that are biting and don't let the weather forecasters forecast scare you from doing what you wanted to do in the first place and that is fish!

Right now if you wanted to fish in North Bay I would suggest fishing from sun up till 11AMfor sea trout, jacks, snapper and a possible shot at snook and small tarpon. Once you get past 11 AM most of the action is done till late in the evening and that is because of the heat and the thunderstorms.

Offshore fishing can be very good if you can get quality bait to take offshore. That has not been easy and of course I need the seas to be calm or it just isn't the place I want to be on a charter.

Bimini
I had a three day trip in Bimini that resulted in 18 large mutton snappers and a couple dozen yellowtails with 12 anglers on board.

South Bay is good for bonefish, barracudas, sharks and a few odds and ends in shallow water but that is not what my boat was built for.

Flamingo! Flamingo! Flamingo that is where it is happening if you are a light tackle angler looking for action! Yes you have to drive an hour or two to get to the Marina. Yes you may have to get up early. Yes there maybe bugs usually at the boat ramp but not on the water. But the drive into the Park is beautiful and once at the Marina it's like you just entered a new dimension. Wildlife is abundant. Lots of birds, alligators, sea and land turtles, manatees, bottle nose dolphins, sharks, crocodiles, eagles, ospreys, flamingos, deer, bobcats, raccoons and much more. Oh I almost forget there are fish there too. Snook, redfish, tarpon, sharks, sea trout, jack crevalles, ladyfish, sawfish, snapper, tripletail, cobia, pompano, permits, sheepshead and black drum.
