Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
The weather up north is cool and the fishing in Miami has gotten hot. With weather forecast of 20 MPH north winds and temperatures in the 60's that can only mean one thing, sailfish. As if someone had thrown a switch the sailfish have arrived in Miami for their wintertime stay. Fishing this past Saturday we went 5/8 on sailfish, a mahi-mahi and a couple of sharks. With the second cold front of the year pushing thru the sailfish are stacked up off Miami Beach. Given the right conditions you should get several shots at these beautiful fish. And we haven't even covered the other species that you have a shot at. The sailfish will only continue to improve as the year goes on.
The mahi-mahi have also shown up after a very disappointing summer run. We are catching them on the edge while fishing for sailfish. Always a welcome addition to our day you never know how many you will end up with as the day goes on. The mahi fishing will also stay strong.
The sword fishing has been a little slow. I have not had any trips but have spoken to some other captains that have and they report slow fishing at night and during the day. The prevailing north winds also make it a challenge to sword fish due to having to fish in the gulf stream in rough weather.
It will be short time till the tarpon get here. As the water cools it will just be a matter of time till these fish take up their winter residence right in our back yard. And lastly the bottom fishing has also been very good we have been catching mutton snapper up to 12#'s in addition to other assorted bottom fish.
Well that is it for right now look for my reports to become more of a regular feature as we move into season and start to fish more often.
Till next time
Best of Luck…
