You Gotta Work!!!

Capt. Gil Gutierrez

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

That seems to be the common theme for most of our trips recently. I have done a bunch of trips since my last report and everyday seems to be like ground hog day, let me explain. While the rest of the country is mired in horribly cold winter weather we continue to enjoy70-88 degree days. We really have not experienced that hard push of sailfish that we are used to this time of year. We caught sailfish on every one of our trips except one. And to be honest we have had to work hard to get bites in some instances.
Although we have had to work to get bites we are getting them. As I mentioned previously we caught sailfish on every trip except one. The real key has been to target different species. Let me give you an example. I had out a new customer Marjory Adis. We started out by targeting some bottom fish where we caught yellowtails, muttons and a bonito. Then we moved out to some deeper wrecks where caught some AJ's and black grouper. We then moved to another area where we ended up catching a couple of sailfish. By the end of the day we ended up with a nice mixed bag of fish taken several different ways. The key was to keep moving, switch targets and switch tactics.
As long as your patient we can put together some fish. The tarpon have started to show up and we have caught at least one on every dedicated tarpon trip we did. The fishing should only get stronger as the year goes on. The same things seemed to occur last year and the fishing remained strong into the summer months. Well that is it for now. Till next time.

Best of Luck…
