Hooked Up On The Vee

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
April 16, 2008
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

That kind of sums up the past 10 days on the LuckyVee. If I gave you a list of what we haven't caught that would be shorter . The fishing has been great onboard the Lucky Vee.
We have caught tarpon, permit, kingfish, snook, mahi-mahi, sailfish, yellowtails, spanish mackerel, mutton snapper and probably some others that I may have forgotten.
April is a great time of year to fish in Miami and this month has not disappointed.

The tarpon are in full force. This is the time of year that we have the big girls showing up. A fish from 90-150#'s is not out of the question. Also not out of the question are permit. These hard fighting fish are treat to catch putting up quite a showing on 20# tackle. And as if all this isn't enough we even had a snook eat a pilchard while tarpon fishing.

The offshore scene is still very strong. The sailfish are still in force. We only had 1 trip where we did not catch a sail and we only really fished for 3 hours that day. Other than that day we have caught and had shots at multiple sails. While waiting for the sails to show up the mahi-mahi and kingfish have been taking up the slack time and the kingfish have all been on the larger side with our smallest one at 18#s.

The false albacore have also made a strong showing. When you have 3, 4 or 5 rods going off at once you know the bonitos have found you. We did not catch any blackfin tuna this week but I expect that to change shortly.

As you have heard before Aril is a great time to fish but so is May. Don't miss out on the great fishing going on now. There are a lot of available species for those anglers looking to test their angling prowess. Give me a call and let's set something up. That is it for now.

Till Next Time

Best of Luck…
Capt. Gil
