Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Back from a relaxing weeks' vacation with the family and now it's time to catch up on the fishing.
Just before I left Miami for our vacation I had the opportunity to fish Flamingo with three brothers that had chartered me in the past. These guys had tried to book me during the same time of the year in the past but it seemed that I was on vacation every time they called. This time I had a few days open and we were able to hit Flamingo together again. On our last charter to Flamingo I had the guys in a small creek that was loaded with goliath groupers, snook, black drum, redfish, jacks and ladyfish and the guys just had a blast casting ¼ ounc4e Hookup lures tipped with a Gulp shrimp and hooking all of the above mentioned fish but this year is different. This year's frigid cold fronts killed many of those snook and goliath groupers so during this charter we had to take advantage of what was available. We fished Snake Bight and the guys had a blast catching ladyfish, jacks, a small redfish and lost a bluefish before we moved further north were we had nonstop action from jacks, ladyfish and Spanish mackerel. We spotted some big tripletail and hooked one that we landed that weighed in at eight pounds. That fish ate a live pinfish under a Cajun Thunder float. We spotted a few more tripletail and released a small fish. On to the next spot where I hoped for snook and redfish but it was more mackerel, ladyfish, jacks and one lost big shark. We moved on and quickly hooked a keeper redfish that ate a pinfish. We missed another redfish and fought a large shark in just inches of water before the leader wore through. It was getting late so headed back to the area that the tripletail were in and for the next two hours we cast to over two dozen tripletail landing another keeper and releasing a few small ones.
The fishing in Flamingo is about the same with the exception of the number of sharks available if you want to catch sharks.
Offshore of Miami I fished with my family and we had nonstop action from bonitos in the eight to 15 pound range and all on light tackle. Along with the bonitos my daughter lost a sailfish that almost jumped into the boat and she landed a nice 16 pound kingfish. We had one more king that made it into the boat plus a shark. All together we had at least 15 cut offs from kingfish bites plus had the hook fall out of two kings that were over 15 pounds. All the action was on live pilchards.
North Biscayne Bay is still producing a lot of sea trout during the cooler portions of the day plus jacks and barracudas. Nighttime small tarpon and snook action is good.
Well that catches us up for now.
Don't let the oil stop you from fishing! Give me a call and let's see what we can hook up on!
YOUR UP NEXT! Just give me call and let's see
what we can catch!
I have recently changed outboard engines on my 22' Pathfinder XL Tournament Edition Bay Boat. I had an opportunity to put one of the first Yamaha SHO 250 Four Stroke outboards on my boat and the difference has been just amazing. This engine has 25 more horsepower but carries 77 less pounds allowing me better hole shot while giving great cruising fuel efficiency. What more can a boater ask for?

I have recently been wearing a lot of Columbia Sports Wear on my fishing charters and the new Blood & Guts shirts are amazing. I have had mackerel, cobia and snook just splatter me with blood and one good washing and the shirts are as good as new. Check out their web site at www.columbia.com
