June can offer some Great Fishing

Capt. Bouncer Smith
June 17, 2016
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a great week of fishing this past week. The wind blew like crazy for several days, but our charter wanted swordfish or tarpon. The tarpon saved the day. We caught 3 tarpon each day for 3 days in a row. Crabs or grunts were the bait of choice. We also caught a couple barracudas and jumped a few more tarpon.

When the wind dropped we tried for swordfish one day with no luck. I have always done good on swordfish in May and June, but not this year. Please come back gladiators.

Friday our group wanted eating fish. They had a great day after struggling for bait. We bottom fished most of the day. This produced one and a half black groupers, a scamp grouper, three and a half mutton snappers, a big African pompano, a few bonitos and several barracudas. We then headed offshore and caught three mahi before the rain chased us home.

Saturday we had total novice. They just wanted action. They had tons of fun. They caught at least 20 bonitos, two tunas, three kingfish, two big yellow jacks, a big almaco jack, a barracuda and a 100 pound Warsaw grouper.

Sunday we had a family of four, mom, dad, 7 year old daughter and 5 year old son. They had a super trip with three kingfish, 6 bonitos, 5 almaco jacks, an amberjack and a grouper.

Sunday night was another family. This time it was grandpa, daughter and two grandsons. They caught a bonito and two big tarpon.

Over the next week or so the tarpon should be hot. Mahi showed up good over the weekend and should stay good most days. Look for more snook and swordfish through this full moon period.
