Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

What a great feeling it is to be back fishing from my new boat.

Between getting everything back on board that I need and tarpon fishing in the evenings, I been very busy making up for lost time.

On the maiden charter, we had 7 tarpon.

I often get asked if we have a shark problem when tarpon fishing. My answer is that in all the years I've fished for tarpon I've only had one tarpon get sharked. After the 7 tarpon evening, the next evening the fishing slowed to a crawl. We caught lots of other fish that included mutton and mangrove snapper, ladyfish, small kingfish, and bluerunners. We finally got the hit we were looking for. The tarpon ate both shrimp baits that we had out so Brad and Brian were double teaming the fish. It started acting very crazy before settling down. It came along side and I snapped one picture before it took off again. They turned the fish around and had it along side again and this time it was bleeding very heavy. Both hooks were in the jaw. Then we saw it. The entire belly of the tarpon was missing. Looking behind the boat we saw a large shark swimming around.

Just a word of caution for those who like to swim in the ocean after dark. We were close to shore when the tarpon was sharked.

The next night we went 3 for 3 on tarpon in the 50 - 75 pound range. Mike, Brad, and Peter each got to catch and release a tarpon.

Spent the weekend at the Miami Boat Show with Whitewater Boats as well as got in an evening tarpon trip with Sport Fishing Magazine and their guests. Had to work our way up the food chain starting with bluerunner and barracuda. Then it was ladyfish. Made another move and found a shrimp run going on and caught 2 tarpon to 40 pounds and a snook before calling it an evening.

The trip prior to that one had the tarpon evading us.

Back up a few other days and Gary and his son, Lewis had their first experience with tarpon fishing. The father and son tag teamed the fish before Lewis made the release.

That brings me up to date. Now it's time for you to call or email and schedule your evening tarpon or offshore fishing trip.
