Live Baiting for Kingfish

Capt. John Barker
January 21, 2015
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

A University of Michigan informal reunion spurred an afternoon booking on the Blue Waters 2. The guys just wanted some action and maybe one big fish.

There was no current with a northeast wind so the crew started out trolling. There were some rips and weed lines 6 miles offshore, but no bait under the weeds, and no bites. The crew brought the boat back to the sea buoy and put out a spread of live baits. They were soon rewarded by a bite on a herring in the long rigger. The fish made a blistering run and put up quite a fight, but the angler prevailed, and one 30 pound kingfish was boated. The balance of the fishing trip saw a few small jacks were captured and released.
