Lots of Redfish and Snook In Flamingo!

Capt. Alan Sherman
October 23, 2013
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

I just finished writing my Miami Herald and Florida Sportsman fishing reports and now I am getting ready for three days in North Biscayne Bay. I spent my last two days fishing two different groups in Flamingo. Before that I was in North Bay getting in on the action with other clients. Before I finish my preparations for tomorrow's charter I wanted to let you know how we did.

Last Saturday I had Joel and Steve in North Bay. We fished a ¾ day. The bigger baits that had been in North Bay moved on and all we could catch was small pilchards and some nice mullet. We fished around North Bay for a while catching lots of small jacks, bluerunners and lizardfish before heading south. As we passed a favorite grass flat I noticed the terns diving on small baitfish so we stopped and gave it a try. Thirty minutes later we had released over a dozen nice sea trout that ate Gulps and Hookup lure jigs. We moved further south where we soaked some mullet at Government Cut inlet and missed a large fish that cut the leader. It could have been a shark or barracuda but maybe a kingfish too. We moved to another flat that has had some big trout on it. We caught over two dozen more trout up to 18 inches but not the over 20 inch fish that I was looking for. We had a 30 pound barracuda eat one of our trout at the boat and also had ladyfish and jacks.

Monday I had Dad Norman and son Jordan in Flamingo for a half day charter. Using live pinfish for bait Jordan released two 25 inch redfish and reeled in Norman's bull shark that almost stripped his reel. Jordan hooked a 100 pound bull shark that cut the leader after almost spooling the reel. The guys missed three redfish and had many other sharks on before we headed in.

Tuesday I had Mike and Brett onboard and we headed for the coast near Shark River. After loading the live wells with pilchards caught with one throw of my cast net we started fishing. At the end of the day the guys had released an easy 20 snook to 28 inches, 20 redfish to 28 inches, sea trout, jacks, ladyfish and each missed a tarpon. We had shots at lots of tarpon, sharks and a few sawfish. I even had some time to catch six nice blue crabs that made a great lunch today.
