Mahi Are Hot

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
July 15, 2008
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Mahi fishing is as good as it gets right now. On our last trip we caught 17 before my customers said "No more". We actually left with fish still swimming around the boat. That is the kind of action you can expect during the summer. The mahi are offshore and biting well.

As we move in on the reef we start to encounter some of our usual summertime species such as bonitos. These hard fighters are a blast on light tackle and when six rods go of at once it can get crazy. Throw in some kingfish and you can bend some rods as long as you are not too particular about a certain type of species. As we continue into summer the sword fishing will start to pick up. These fish are not as large as the wintertime girls but I have heard of a 500 and 400 plus pound fish being caught during the last couple of weeks so these fish are defiantly here. In the summer we see more fish in 50-200 pound range. We are also catching amberjacks on the county wrecks.

As we start to move into our slow time of year as far as business goes the fishing remains strong with good action in on the reef and good mahi fishing offshore. Give me a call and lets set something up.

Till next time

Best of Luck…
Captain Gil Gutierrez
