Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
On my last report, I mentioned how many of largest fish of the year are caught during the months of April and May. Fortunately for many anglers this has been the case again this year. Some of the largest kingfish and dolphin (mahi-mahi) are have been caught in the last couple of weeks. Most of these fish have fallen for baits dangling from kites intented for cruising sailfish. Speaking of sailfish they too have not disappointed anglers. On my last trip we went 2 for 3 on the sails with a couple of nice dolphin in the box by noon. Unfortunately for me I had to stop fishing in order to take my boat in for and unexpected service call.
Another fish that has mad its presence known in the last couple of weeks has been the blackfin tuna. Just like the dolphin and kings most have been caught by anglers kite fishing for sailfish. I just received a report today that some of the bait boats have been selling loads of pilchards to anglers targeting these tuna. The most effective way to catch these fish is by chumming heavily with small baits such as pilchards and letting the tuna find you. Because these fish prefer to feed in low light conditions it is best to target them during the late afternoon and early evening.
Finally, if bottom fishing is more your style don't forget that we also offer night trips targetting yellowtail and mangrove snapper. Action is heating up over the reefs and shallow wrecks. Last year, my customers enjoyed some really nice catches of both.

Miami Fishing Forecast:
Look for more slammer dolphin and smoker kings in the weeks to come. Blackfins and sails should also stick around for a while. On the reefs and wrecks the entire snapper clan will be out in force with muttons getting the most attention.
