Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

My mid-May report starts out with some long awaited news. The black fin tuna have shown up! During the past couple of weeks we have caught several tunas with our largest weighing in at 27#'s. We caught most of our tunas while fishing the edge in search of sailfish. These tuna are a great fight on 20 pound outfits. It's only a matter of time before we get one in the over 30 pound class. The sailfish continue to bite well. We have caught them on every single one of our trips out and have had a couple of trips where we caught several. Check out some the pictures below of the tuna and sailfish action we experienced last week.

In addition to the tunas and sailfish we have also been catching some kingfish. These fish have been running into the 50# class with our personal best this past week of 32#'s. We have had days were if we would have landed every king that bit we would have limited out very quickly. This past Saturday we had 4 kingfish cut us off in a matter of 10 minutes. We went on to catch 3 more in addition to the 4 that we missed.
Bottom fishing continues to be good as we have caught mutton snappers, groupers and some of the largest jack caravels that I have ever seen on the bottom. The bottom fishing should only continue to improve in the following weeks with the full moons.The tarpon continue to cooperate as they should. So far our average of 2-4 fish a night has remained intact. I have a couple of tarpon trips on the books so we will see if I can maintain my batting average. The tarpon bite should continue to be steady for a while.
As you can tell the fishing overall is very good. This is my favorite time of year to fish just for this reason. We have so many options, so many things we can fish for that we just run out of time in the day. Don't let the action slip you by. If you like to sleep in on the weekends we can do a late afternoon trip or a tarpon trip or my favorite a combination of the two or as we call it a half/half. We spend four hours fishing offshore and then go spend a couple of hours inshore tarpon fishing. Like I said so many options so little time! Give me a call and let set something up. Till next time.
