Outstanding Weatherin South Florida Great South Florida Fishing!

Capt. Alan Sherman
November 12, 2014
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather in South Florida has been outstanding. If you live here then you know what I mean if you don't then you had better catch a flight and get here while you can. Due to our great weather we have been rewarded with very good fishing as well. It hasn't been a bite every second but it has been pretty good and location hasn't seemed to matter.

In North Bay schools of pilchards, threadfin herring and mullet have attracted a lot of attention from Spanish mackerel to four pounds, bluefish to three pounds, lots of bluerunners and of course jack crevalles. We have caught these fish with Rapala X Raps. Hookup lures tipped with Gulp bait and with live baits fished under a Cajun Thunder float or free lined. Over the grass flats seat trout have been easy to catch and snook and tarpon are available and have been part of almost every charter I have had recently. We are using Key Largo rods and Daiwa and Shimano spinning reels loaded with Mustad, P Line and Suffix lines. Our choice of hooks is the Mustad brand and the Ultra Point Big Guns and long shanks have been my go to hooks for a long time.

South Bay is starting to pick up now that water temperatures are falling. A few more cold fronts and water temperatures that hold around 72 degrees and that fishery should be ready to go. On recent trips to that area we have small mutton snapper, mangrove snappers and an assortment of jacks that have provided a lot of action.

Offshore fishing has been interesting with Spanish mackerel along the beaches and a few larger kingfish, blackfin tuna, a few sailfish an wahoo biting on the outside of the outer reef. Dolphins are being caught in depths from 200 feet out tom 1200 feet with the deeper depths producing some of the best action. On the bottom there have been mutton and vermillion snappers, groupers and jacks.

Flamingo has been very good with water temperatures many degrees cooler than Miami's, black drum and sheepshead are rubbing shoulders with the redfish and snook. Sea trout are plentiful over the grass flats and lots of ladyfish and jacks are feeding next to the trout. Pompano are showing up and in the open waters of the Gulf Spanish mackerel, bluefish, jacks, ladyfish, sharks, cobia and pompano are being caught.

South Florida Fishing Forecast:

Fall is here and the fishing in South Florida is about to explode. As more and more baitfish schools push into our waters more and more predators will be following and feeding on these baitfish giving my clients plenty of opportunities at some great catches. I look for snook, tarpon, mackerel, large jack crevalles, large ladyfish, snappers, groupers, sea trout, barracudas and more to feeding from sunrise to sunset in North Bay. South Bay will see plenty of action from snapper and groupers as well as mackerel, bluefish and pompano. Offshore we will see kingfish and Spanish mackerel, bonitos, sailfish, dolphins and blackfin tuna feeding right alongside each other. In Flamingo in Everglades National Park we will see the return of all of the migratory birds as they fill the park and make unbelievable sunrise pictures. Fishing for snook, redfish, sheepshead, blackdrum, snapper, sea trout, jacks ladyfish, sharks, tripletail, cobia and more will be as e exciting light tackle fishing as one could wish for.

SNOOK, TARPON, SHARK, REDFISH, SEA TROUT, MACKEREL, DOLPHINS, TUNA
