Miami, Florida - Offshore

Capt. Mark Houghtaling

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Where in the hell are they. That's what anglers are asking each other these days regarding the whereabouts of the dolphin. They still are playing hide and seek. Here one day, gone the next, but there may be a glimmer of hope on the horizon. My latest reports from the keys are that they are on their way. It has been reported that many large fish are being caught in the Islamorada area. It should't take long for them to make it up here. I have also heard that you can walk on the dolphin in the Tongue of the Ocean near Chub Cay. That doesn't help us here.Patience....it shouldn't be much longer.

There are still sailfish around with a king and blackfin tuna mixed in. This action has been seen by kite fisherman fishing along the edge. I fished before the weekend and caught wahoo on two different trips while kite fishing off Elliot Key. The fish were 20 to 30 pounds. We also caught kings up to 30 pounds and a few sails. Very few dolphin were caught. We kept a bottom rod down all day and had terrific action but couldn't get a fish to the boat because of the sharks. Everytime we hooked a fish we would work him off the bottom, when the sharks zeroed in on them and the rest was history. The full moon is coming up and watch out for a good mutton snapper bite.

Good Luck, you'll need it with all the dolphin tournaments this weekend. See you on the rip!
