Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Steady Action!

Unpredictable is the best word to describe the fishing as of late. During my last few trips we have been concentrating our efforts on kite fishing for sailfish. Most of the fishing has been taking place in water less than 120'. The key has been to suspend live baits under kites while maintaining the boat in a clean northbound current. We have been averaging at least two or three shots per trip.

Inshore spanish mackerel continue to provide anglers with pretty dependable action. The key to catching these guys is to have plenty of small pilchards for them to snack on. On some occasions kingfish will surprise anglers pursuing the macks.

The offshore scene continues to be dominated by the mighty swordfish. Many boats have enjoyed success boating two or more fish per trip. Many of the fish have been on the small side and therefore released.

Finally for those that enjoy the challenge of the silver king. Tarpon are still being caught in Goverment Cut at night. Most are being hooked by drifting live shrimp across the bottom. Some boats have also done well by fishing in the bay when tides haven't been right.

March and April usually mean strong winds and stronger fishing. Hopefully this spring will not be an exception. We should start seeing some large smoker kings and some early season slammer dolphin next month. If you are interested in heading out make sure you contact me soon because these will be busy months.
