Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
With all of the recent rain we have had the bay waters are full of freshwater which is still being released through the local salinity dams. Luckily for us the fish have acclimated themselves and are hungry and quite active.
Schools of threadfin herring and very small pilchards are roaming the bay from Bakers Haulover south to 36th St. Feeding off these schools of bait are speckled sea trout, mangrove snapper, barracudas, jack crevalles, bluerunners, ladyfish, small tarpon and snook. My clients have also been catching 20 to 40lb. bull sharks on live pinfish.
Best rigs have been a Cajun Thunder with a live bait (shrimp, pinfish, pilchard, finger mullet) suspended about 30" below the cork.
If your thing is artificials try using a Capt. Hank Brown’s Hook Up lure in a 1/4 oz. size with a Saltwater Assassin plastic worm attached to the hook. Make a long down wind cast and experiment with your retrieve until you get a hit. Remember to stay on the move. The fish always are! If their not biting in one spot you can be sure they will be in one of the next!
