FISHING NORTH BISCAYNE BAY
with CApt. Alan Sherman
May 25, 2004
It's time for a new fishing update.
Finally we are seeing a break in the wind & our spring conditions are starting to set in. Fishing has been great even with the strong winds. The past two weeks have seen me fish as far south as Flamingo, South Biscayne Bay and North Biscayne Bay. What’s neat is that the fishing has been great in all three locations.
Lots of finger Mullet have moved into the bay and as of a day or two ago I haven’t seen anything feeding on them but last year we had a nice group of Tarpon working on them for as long as they were in the bay. Speckled Sea Trout to 4 ¾ lbs. and small Jack Crevalles with an occasional TripleTail have made up the majority of our North Biscayne Bay catches with the Sea Trout the dominate fish. Recent trips have produced dozens of Sea Trout with limits of 4 per person & 1 fish over 20”s pretty easy.
In South Biscayne Bay we found plenty of Bonefish on the incoming tide, good size Barracudas, Small Sharks and a good number of Permit. Live Shrimp, Crabs and Capt. Hank Brown Skimmer Jigs have been the ticket.
Down in Flamingo the fishing has been very good as long as you could get out of the wind. But the horse & deerfly’s were terrible. Snook, Redfish, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Snapper, Jacks, Ladyfish and Catfish were plentiful and somewhat easy to catch on Capt. Hank Brown Hook Up Lures and Plastic tails tipped with a Fishbites strip. Capt. Hank Brown Bucktail Jigs were working real good on the Snook and Reds.
