Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing North Biscayne Bay
with Capt. Alan Sherman
Happy New Year everyone! Wow what a year that just passed. 2004 left us with a great year of fishing and hundreds of happy fishermen and fisherwomen with those great big bragging grins after a great day on the water. Now with the start of the year 2005 just under way it has already been a busy New Year. December saw a lot of days on the water and a lot of wind, rain and colder temperatures but Jan. has been quite mild as far as winter weather goes and it has triggered some very good fishing. Speckled Sea Trout are back in season and have been in good numbers with a lunker Trout making a showing on almost every trip. The Trout have been eating live baits and artificials. Jack Crevalles are roaming the bay as usual and are in schools of small and big fish. Snapper and Grouper have made their moves to deeper rockier waters and are feeding well. Spanish Mackerel continue to move in and out of the bay as they follow the schools of baitfish. Tarpon have been very active in and around Gov. Cut and Bakers Haulover. Snook for catch and release till Feb. 1st have been cruising in large schools but have been mostly dormant & just soaking up the warm sun’s rays. Pompano are starting to show up in North Biscayne Bay and have hit live Shrimp, which are much larger this time of the year.
Fishing in Flamingo continues to be very good with more variety this time of the year then any other. Redfish, Snook, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Snapper & Grouper are schooled up in most of the Rivers ands Creeks and Sea Trout, Sharks, Jacks and Ladyfish are hitting well over the grass flats. The open waters of the Gulf have been producing good catches of Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, Triple Tail, large Jack Crevalles and Bluefish. The bird life in the Park right now is just breath taking.
Until then if you haven’t been on the water recently then now is the time!
