North Biscayne Bay Fishing Report

Capt. Alan Sherman
November 14, 2006
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

FISHING NORTH & SOUTH BISCAYNE BAY, OFFSHORE & FLAMINGO with Capt. Alan Sherman

Wow what a beautiful week of weather that we are having! The weather pattern will continue for another day or so before a stronger cold front moves in bringing some wind, rain and lower temperatures and then clear skies with little humidity. Should mean a spectacular Thanksgiving Holiday week.

With the changing weather pattern recently and the cooler temperatures fishing continues to get better. Lots of bait has returned to North Biscayne Bay and the inlets attracting action from all kinds of residential fish and the migratory species that are moving south after each cold front. Fishing for snook along the beaches around mullet schools for pier and surf fishermen has produced snook to 30 pounds as it did for one of my clients who landed an approximate 30 pound snook on a live mullet from the beach the other day. Pompano are starting to show up along the beaches along with bluefish, Spanish mackerel, large ladyfish and jack crevalles. Off shore king mackerel are showing up in good numbers and some have been in the 25-pound range. Sailfish, wahoo, dolphin and bonito have been hitting in depths from 100 feet out to 300 feet. In North Biscayne Bay speckled sea trout are out of season but plentiful along the grass flats in depths from three to six feet of water. We have been catching them on Rapala X Raps and Twitchin Raps, Hook Up lures with plastic fish or shrimp tails tipped with a piece of Fishbites for scent and of course on Cajun Thunders with either live shrimp or live pilchards under them. Some of these trout are way over three pounds. Large jack crevalles, ladyfish, barracuda and Spanish mackerel have also been active in the bays especially in open water around baitfish schools. Tarpon and snook have been hitting on the warmer days and in the evenings around bridge pilings, dock lights and shorelines and in Dumbfoundling Bay. In South Biscayne Bay the finger channels are producing decent catches of small mutton snappers, red and black grouper, grunts, jacks, bluerunners, bluefish and Spanish mackerel. In Flamingo in Everglades National Park Spanish mackerel are moving into the Gulf areas along with bluefish, large jack crevalles and cobias. Closer to shore small jack, ladyfish by the thousands and small redfish and snook have been available along the Gulf shorelines and creek mouths. In the rivers plenty of Goliath grouper, gag grouper, mangrove snapper and some snook, black drum and redfish have been available on the outgoing tides. On a recent trip to Flamingo my guys landed a 14-pound jack crevalle on a Twitchin Rap and six pound line, loads of ladyfish, two small snook, two small redfish, three out of four cobias and three Spanish mackerel.

Well that’s what you have to choose from if your thinking about fishing in the next month or so. I have scattered openings so give me a call and lets set up a fishing trip while the fishing is good.
