Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

As the summer rushes by, before you know it swordfish season will be over on
Bouncer’s Dusky 33. Have you made your reservations yet? We had a nice
swordfish trip this week We got a 80 pounder and had 2 more bites under the full
moon. The seas were calm and we saw the light on the leader swimming up to the
boat. We even saw the fish swim past the sea anchor before we came tight for the
fight. You have got to try this sport!
Snook fishing at the inlet is good. We had 4 one night and 3 the next. This was in
about 1.5 hours. The snook were up to 20 pounds. We also had several big jack
crevalle and barracudas. We had 2 monster fish on that we have no idea what they
were, but 20 pound tackle was too light to handle them.
Day trips have been scarce. We had one Friday. We got a bunch hard fighting
false albacore and a 100 pound spinner shark. The one shot we had at a sailfish
jumped off. Today’s trip was extra interesting. In the morning we had several false
albacore, a mutton snapper, a small king mackerel and a barracuda. When the
action slowed down on the live pilchards and herring, we switched game plans. We
caught some frigate bonitas and fished them live by slow trolling. 2 on the surface
and 1 down 100 feet on the down rigger. In an hour we had 6 bites on the deep rig.
This resulted in 3 king mackerel from 15 to 20 pounds. The strange thing was that
we were fishing in 200 to 300 feet of water. Most kings here are caught in less than
200 feet of water. This is indicative of hot summer weather driving the fish deeper.
We’re off to the Bahamas. Look for the results of that action next week, Bouncer
