Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

It’s been another good week for fishing on Bouncer’s Dusky 33. We started the week with a
swordfish trip that produced a 60 pound swordfish release and 2 cuban night sharks of 30 and
100 pounds also released. We also had another swordfish bite and another shark bite.
Tuesday night we went snook fishing at the inlet and it was a lot of fun. We fished live bait and
cast lures, but the lure bite was off. On the live bait we got 7 snook releases. They ranged from
about 6 pounds up to an 18 pounder that came on 8 pound tackle. Anchored in the current that
was some fight. We were hearing and seeing a lot of tarpon bust on the surface, so one angler
switched from bottom fishing for snook to a freelined bait. He had half a dozen tarpon strikes in
an hour and got 3 close to the boat. One was officially released and 2 jumped off a few feet from
the boat.
The main event of the week was the taping of a “Mark Sosin’s Saltwater Journal” to appear on
TNN this winter. Over 3 days we had bunches off bonita on bait surface plugs and flies. We also
caught several barracuda and a king mackerel. We spent some of our time dodging rain or tarpon
fishing in the bay. The first time we moved to the bay we got a nice tarpon on the late afternoon
incoming tide. On the final day of the shot, we were in pretty good shape for getting plenty of
action for a show. The pressure was off. Of course that was the day we got 2 sailfish, 2 bonita, 2
barracuda, a tarpon and a beautiful 120 pound leopard ray. Making one of these shows is a lot of
work, but a great challenge and education as well. Working with Mark and his crew is a pleasure
beyond words.
