Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bimini Blast! What an appropriate description of the past 10 days. We started out
with the Dusky Owners Bimini Blast. This was 14 Dusky owners and their boats
having a ball at Bimini Beach Club. There was a 40 pound wahoo, a couple sailfish,
a 27 pound king mackerel and loads of yellowtail snapper, barracuda, jacks, sharks
and yelloweye snapper caught. The beach parties and evening events almost
overshadowed the fishing with their great participants and dining treats. Just prior
to this event we caught a 10 pound cero mackerel, a 70 pound amberjack, 12 pound
grouper, a couple 100 pound sharks and all the normal snappers etc. During this the
competition of the Dusky Bimini Blast we got so many fish 3 days in a row, that
my anglers would have to stop fishing to recover the use of their hands. These fish
were a mixture of snapper, grouper, jacks, sharks and barracuda. On the last day we
made our move as our team “The Mercury Fishing Team” caught a 40 pound black
grouper on a live yellowtail. This event was an absolute HOOT. Don’t miss it if you
ever get the chance.
When the Dusky owners headed home on Sunday, I moved over to North Bimini
and hooked up with my good friends Scott and Mike. We fished the shallow
wrecks around Bimini for 3 days. Scott and Mike had a 40 pound amberjack on 10
pound spin, a couple african pompano, loads of 10 pound horse eye jacks,
yellowtail snapper, sharks, barracuda, runners and several other spiecies all on
artificial lures and light spinning outfits.
The last day of our stay the winds were rising faster than the sun, so we headed
back across the Gulf Stream to Miami. When we were safely back to Biscayne Bay
we fished live herring to catch 5 tarpon up to 65 pounds out of 8 solid strikes. I say
solid strikes, because we had numerous explosions on the baits that produced
herring racing across the surface away from near misses. It was a good ending to 10
days of super fishing on Bouncer’s Dusky 33.
