Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
Spring fishing is still great. Last week we spent 3 days in Bimini catching yellowtail snappers, groupers, a big king, assorted jacks and a potential world record shark on fly, which was our primary goal.
Friday evening tarpon fishing was good. We caught a couple nice ones. Saturday we were zigging when we should have been zagging. We went for dolphin in the morning and caught 2 under birds about 10 miles offshore. In the afternoon we went for kings, tuna and sailfish, all of which were very active in the morning. We did catch 2 kings and two sailfish to save the day, but the dolphin bit real good offshore in the afternoon. Friday evening we did better. We caught 3, ten pound snook and a 10 pound jack crevalle on the falling tide. Then when the tide changed we switched to tarpon fishing and caught a 50 pounder, missed a couple and finished the evening with Jeanne Pemberton catching a fish about 140 pounds.
Sunday we targeted sailfish and tuna. We got 4 sailfish and 3 tuna plus several kings, a couple bonitos and a barracuda. Monday we got 6 sailfish, 5 tuna, 3 kings, 3 bonito and a barracuda. All this action is taking place in 90 to 160 feet of water fishing with live pilchards and herring on flatlines or the kite.
It should be mentioned that the last 2 days everything but 3 tunas were released. All the snook on Saturday evening were also released. Releasing fish is a good investment in the future of sport fishing.
