Fishing Report for Miami, Florida

Capt. Bouncer Smith
February 26, 2006
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Great Boat Show Fishing

What an exciting Boat Show! We got a brand new "Bouncer's Dusky 33" powered by a pair of Evinrude E-TECH 250s. She has great big Lowrance colored fish finder and GPS chart plotter screens plus Lowrance radar. The new Evinrudes are quick. We have run up to 46 knots this week.

Our first trip produced 2 big tarpon along South Beach on Thursday evening. Our first day time action Allowed Joe Caruso (16) to catch a couple sailfish and 5 dolphin. The first fish hooked on a charter was a nice wahoo which Joe started the day with.

Saturday morning one of the creators of the Gladiator TR-1 autopilot, Doug, snuck out before the show opened and caught a tarpon over 100 pounds as well as several spanish mackerel.

When the show opened there was more big news. Patrick Mansell released his new book, "Living Legends of Big Game Fishing". This book is a collection of action stories by some of the greatest names in big game fishing. Somehow they slipped a couple of my humble stories in among this collection. This book is truly a must have for all who love big game fishing.

As the boat show ended, it was back to fishing. We took Debbie and Sean from Oregon based TR-1 autopilots out for a couple hours on Monday morning. They hit the jackpot. in 4 hours they caught a black grouper, 25 king mackerel, 2 dolphin fish and a bonito. Talk about some hot action.

Monday evening Jay Della Monica caught the first swordfish on the new boat, as well as his first swordfish ever. Tuesday Jay, his brother Joe and father, Joe caught a couple barracudas, a couple bonito and a king before heading out to capture another swordfish. Wednesday the Della Monicas caught 2 sailfish, a king and a small shark.

Wednesday evening we were joined by the Dietrich family. Marina, Elise and Camille each caught tarpon on the first evening of their 3 trip adventure.

]

Thursday the girls caught 1.5 king mackerel and 10 small amberjacks. This day was highlighted by Elise catching a sailfish, Marina catching a big gray grouper, and Camille scoring with a very big barracuda and bonito.

Friday the girls caught 4 gray grouper, a couple jacks a dolphin and Camille caught a gigantic shark.

Friday night the George Bubrick family caught 2 tarpon over 100 pounds each, 2 tarpon about 75 pounds each and a black grouper.

Come by Miami Beach Marina and see the new Bouncer's Dusky 33. Go to Amazon.com to get "Living Legends of Big Game Fishing". And come by Dusky Sport Center on March 2nd at 6 PM to learn about catching blackfin tuna, big kings and dolphin during the spring migration.
