Fall Fishing Futures
Get ready for some changes. Here comes some of the fastest fishing of the year. Fall is about to arrive in south Florida and the fishing will really change.
We ended September with some good fishing. John Carmichael fished with us on the 25th and caught a bunch of nice dolphin, including a 30 pound bull which we tagged and released.
We spent three days with Mark Sosin, working on a show for this winter. We caught a couple sailfish, some king mackerel, bonitos, small shark and dolphin, a big mutton snapper and topped off the shooting with 2 swordfish.
Hayes Fowler and his boys finished the month with us. The fishing was slow, but they did accumulate a catch of small kings, dolphin, sharks, an african pompano, and a big mutton snapper.
The whole first week of October we were blown out on swordfish trips. On Saturday we caught some big vermillion snappers, a couple small kings and half a dozen small to medium almaco jacks.
Over the last week we have centered our attention on swordfish. The results have been pretty good. We fished with Mike and Matt Bertuch in the "Adopt a Swordfish" tournament on Saturday night. They each caught 2 swordfish and both guys tagged and released one.
Adam Carlis tagged and released his first swordfish on Sunday night. Adam and his family got to admire some baby sailfish swimming in the Hydro Glow light hanging over the side while we awaited for his swordfish.
The Remmer party tagged and released two swordfish over Monday and Tuesday night as well as keeping one to take home. The baby sailfish came by to visit us both night. Three nights in a row with the baby sailfish is a personal record.
We lacked anglers for Wednesday and Thursday night and they tell me the swordfish ate like crazy. Then Friday night we went out and listened to everyone moan about the lack of action. We did not have a bite over the 7 hours we worked our baits.
So now about the coming action. It is blowing about 20 out of the northeast today and should blow through Tuesday. That will bring even more baitfish and predator fish south for the season. Huge schools of pilchards, sardines and finger mullet are already in town. Schools of jacks are attacking them all day long in the inlet.
The best fly and light tackle fishing of the year will take place over the next few weeks. Spanish mackerel, jacks, bluefish, ladyfish and several other species of game fish will be waiting for any lure that hits the water.
By the time November arrives, sailfish, dolphin, kings and bonito will be very active along the edge. Thankfully they will stay all winter for us to enjoy.
On the wrecks there will be african pompano, grouper, amberjacks and the first of the cobia.
It is time to plan your fishing. We fill our reservation book weeks and then months in advance for the winter months. With the super bowl coming to Miami, bookings will be even heavier.
