Fishing Report for Miami, Florida

Capt. Bouncer Smith
April 9, 2007
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring Fishing is Hot for the Kids

We must be getting too old for this journalism. Or we are catching too many fish. It has been a month since our last report.

Over the last month we did a lot of fishing with high winds. Now the weather is beautiful and we are still catching a few real nice fish.

We had a lot of days with 5 or 6 sailfish. Rosemarie Williamson fished with us from noon till 5 PM on the 19th. She caught her first 4 sailfish, a dolphin over 20 pounds, a king mackerel and a bonito.

Jeanne Pemberton fished with her mother Cindy. Cindy caught a sailfish and Jeanne caught a 300 pound bull shark. A mutton snapper and a dolphin put dinner on the table.

We fished a tournament with Brooke Baldwin and Joe. They caught 15 sailfish and that was a lot of fun with no prizes other than great fishing.

The Lynn Weber crowd fished two days and caught 19 dolphin including two over 22 pounds each by Deanne and a 30 pound bull by Lynn. They caught cero and spanish mackerel, an amberjack 6 big jack crevalle, a red grouper, a 25 pound black grouper and 6 bonito. Brian caught a beautiful 80 pound spinner shark that jumped at least 10 times.

We finished off March with the Yamaha/Contender Miami Billfish Tournament. Steve Nichols brought in his top angler, daughter Amanda to show off her skills. While Steve caught 1 sailfish, Amanda caught 8 sailfish and several big dolphin.

Amanda took 3rd place angler in the tournament, 2nd place lady angler, top angler aboard an outboard boat and heaviest fun fish by a lady angler. We sure enjoyed all those smiles at the awards dinner.

April 2nd and 3rd it was Gino, Mario and Pietro on the rods. These young men caught a big barracuda, 6 bonito, Mario caught a sailfish, a dolphin, 3 school size king mackerel, a 15 pound wahoo, a small amberjack and a bonnet head shark. Gino stole the show with a big nurse shark and a 39 pound king mackerel.

13 year old Pete Kane caught 3 permit in the 22 pound range and a 25 pound cobia while his dad Tom cheered him on.

13 year old Greg Stallone caught and released a 41 pound african pompano and an 18 pound barracuda Saturday evening.

Tarpon fishing has been the worst I have even seen, but we still have a few evenings with a couple 100 pound fish per evening.

I hope we can catch some swordfish and snook together this summer, Bouncer
