Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
A World Record Sailfish Makes the Month
Well another month has pasted and again I have gotten out one report. Shame on me.
Joe Capallano and his friends started this report with some great fish. Over 3 days they caught 5 sails, several dolphin to 18 pounds, a bunch of kings and bonito, a 34 pound jack crevalle, an 18 pound horse eye jack and a 28 pound blackfin tuna.
Steve Whelan whooped up on the fish one evening trip with a sailfish, 2 nice kings and a 120 pound tarpon.
Tom Hobbs snuck over from Texas for a brief trip one morning and scored his first two sailfish and 5 kings from 18 to 25 pounds. We were back at the dock by 10:30 AM.
Mike, Mark and Jeremy Burdt fished several afternoons and evenings. They had no luck with the swordfish, but the afternoons were good. They had several kings to 25 pounds, 4 sailfish, a couple dolphin, a 30 pound tuna and a 120 pound tarpon.
Since May first we have had a day with Lee Goodrich and friends catching 4 sailfish, 4 blackfin tuna to over 30 pounds, 7 dolphin around 5 pounds each, 6 kings and 3 bonito. We had Jeff, Nancy and Nichole Cobb plus son in law Jeff out and everybody caught sailfish. Jeff caught a 33 pound tuna. And they added 6 kings and a bonito for spice.
Our last trip was with Jeff and 11 year old Heather Harkavy. Heather started the day with 29 world record catches to her credit. She hoped to added more. She smashed another record with a whopping, 78 inch fork length, 30 inch girth 94 pound sailfish caught on 20 pound Ande line, Penn 320GLD reel and Capt Harry's Rod. Using a live herring under the kite in 180 feet of water. She was sooooo proud that the fish was tagged and released after being weighed and revived.
We will be having a seminar on the art of catching fish while trolling at Dusky Sport Center 6:30 PM on Thursday May 17th.
Look for plenty of tuna, kings, sailfish and tarpon in the late afternoons over the month or so. Let's go catch some.
