Miami - Haulover to Fowey Light

Capt. Dean Panos
June 10, 2001
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

6/10/01

The summer brings, calm seas, hot weather, dolphin fishing and BAHAMA TRIPS! We have had back to back trips to Bimini and all of our trips this year have been very good, and this last was one phenomenal. We caught fish after fish. We caught yellowtails, muttons, african pompano, amberjack, grouper, kingfish, cero mackerels, barracudas, sharks, dog snappers. That's 10 species in one or two days. We fished south of Bimini the first day and mainly caught, yellowtails, grouper, and cero's. The cero mackerel south of Cat Cay - Ocean Cay are very plentiful and very large. We caught several ceros over 12 pounds. The yellowtail were OK, but definitely not as large as the ones we caught on the second day up in the Gingerbreads area.

We also fished in front of Bimini for the muttons and did quite well with them. We caught quite a few and they ranged in size from 10 - 18 pounds.

Today we fished up in the Gingerbreads and caught some monster yellowtail. We caught one yellowtail that was well over 5 pounds. We also caught and released some very large amberjacks. What a blast catching them on light tackle.

The fishing was non-stop. There was hardly enough time to eat a sandwich or for that matter to get something to drink. It is easy to get over zealous, so remember there are fish limits, so catch and release makes perfect sense.

Bahama trips are very popular with the local Miami people, and weekends book quickly. As of now I have only one weekend open from now to mid July, so if you're interested in a trip weekday or weekend, give me a call!

Tight Lines and Good Fishing,

Capt. Dean Panos
