Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

1/19/02
The sailfish bite in Miami has been nothing short of phenomenal. We didn’t have a lot of trips this week, but the boats that got out, had an awesome sailfish bite. One boat on Wednesday caught 24 out of 35 sailfish. Many other boats caught sailfish in the double digits.
We had a trip today, and although the bite slowed down a bit, we still caught 4 sailfish by 1:30pm. At that time, with a solo angler on the boat, he decided that 4 was a good number and he wanted to head back in and out of the cold. There is no doubt, that it was mighty chilly this morning. Our sailfish, as well as most of the fish caught this week have been from Key Biscayne down to Triumph Reef. I expect the sailfish to continue to pour through our area, as the cold fronts have now settled in to a steady pattern.
Swordfishing has also been excellent when you can get out. Our last trip out we caught 2 out 3. Last Thursday I was doing a sailfish seminar, but the boats that went out swording did very well. I know of a 396 lb swordfish caught and several 250 pounders as well. That 396 is impressive and congrats to the lucky crew.
I have a few day trips this week as well as a few swordfish trips. I’ll keep you posted.
Tight Lines and Good Fishing,
Capt. Dean Panos
