Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
A Mixed bag of Fishing
This past week we saw a mixed bag of fished caught. As with dolphin fishing, one day is good and the next day is slow. Today we went 22 miles outs and scoured the ocean for dolphin, to no avail. Yesterday and earlier in the week, the dolphin fishing was real good. Once in on the reef, beware of the bonitas. Lots and Lots of them. Bonitas in their own right, are a great sportfish. The are hard fighting and eager to grab a bait. Fortunately for them, they are not the best tasting fish on the market.
Kingfish have been fairly consistent, although most of the fish have been on the small size. On the other hand, shots at sailfish are still very good. Most boats have been getting one or two a day. I spoke to two different anglers, and both said that the biggest sailfish they had ever caught was during this past week. Although we might not get those multiple sailfish days, the fish in the summer are bigger. Both boats reported that the sailfish were in the 90 lb. Class, and for Florida, that is BIG!
Tarpon fishing has remained red hot. Lots of big fish (100 - 125 lb.) and they are eagerly eating crabs. Most tarpon caught have been at night, although one boat reported catching them all day. This week we have some Bahamas trips coming up, and look forward to providing a fishing report about them.
