Miami - Haulover to Triumph Reef

Capt. Gil Gutierrez

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Weather Challenged

The weather here has been the biggest challenge as of late. Between tropical storms, hurricanes and our first cold front of the year the seas have been a challenge to most of my customers. I fished Saturday with the four guys from the Pure-O-Clean company. With seas ranging from 4-5’ with a couple of bigger waves thrown in we were going to need the services of the Pure-O-Clean Company for some of the dinner one of my guest left on board my boat. But my crew put up a good fight and were rewarded with five kingfish that were headed for the smoker. But with the relentless rain and sea conditions they called it a day by 10:00am. Had we kept on fishing we would have limited out on kingfish at the rate we were going.

As we mark the first cold front of the year we begin to feel the change in the air and it can only signal one thing, sailfish season is upon us. The colder it gets to the north the hotter the fishing gets in Miami. Beginning next month we will start our first sailfish tournament of the year. I will be chronicling our successes and challenges with team SeaVee as the year goes on. This will give you an idea of the highs and lows that a tournament angler goes through. So keep checking my website to see what we have been up to and how we are doing.

Wish me luck…
