Strong Sword Bite

Sorry about the slowdown in reports, but this is the slow time of year for the charter boat industry. That being said it is a great time to get work done on the boat and tackle. In between the maintenance we have gotten out a couple of time. The fishing has ranged from very good to a downright tuff. Some of the areas very best captains have had some very tuff days. .I hope by now you have come to know that when I write my reports I am as honest as I can be. There are some captains that never write about a bad day. They seem to catch fish on every trip, every single day no matter what conditions they are faced with. They will tell you whatever you want to hear and then when they are unable to produce they shrug their shoulders and say “Well That’s Fishing”. I can assure you that I will be honest with you in terms of what is available at the given time of year that you want to fish. Now that I got that out of the way, let’s get started with the fishing reports

We had a kingfish run going on with a lot of kings from 9-25 pounds being caught. A lot of these fish were being caught on the deeper side anywhere from 90-250’ deep. Some boats were able to get limits on these fish. The one fish that has been consistent have been the bonitos. You can pretty much count on these hard fighting fish to bend some rods.

We have also been doing some sword fishing these past couple of nights and enjoying some success. We heard of a couple of boats catching fish up to 300 pounds and also catching multiple fish. We had a shot at a second larger fish but we were unable to stay connected and ended up going 1/2. These are hard fighting fish often dumping several hundred yards of 80# test before slowing down. A 300# sword is no joke and you should plan on staying for a while. This time of year we experience clam seas which make sword fishing that much more enjoyable.
