Miami - Haulover to Triumph Reef

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
March 30, 2007
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

As Good As It Gets

That basically sums up the fishing in South Florida right now. The only thing that has been hurting us a little bit has been the weather. We have had some customers get very seasick and we have had to cancel some of our trips due to high wind and seas. Most of my customers don’t like to fish those large sea conditions and I don’t make them since we fish primarily for fun.

Those that were able to tolerate the conditions were rewarded with dolphin, sailfish and kingfish. This week during the Kingfish Masters we saw some high 40# fish weighed in addition to some nice wahoo. Although conditions were tough those boats that did fish had good action.

The sailfish are also here in good numbers. It seems that the fishing season is starting to catch up to what it should be for this time of year. We were not able to swordfish due to strong winds from the north and easterly quadrants but hopefully the wind will lay down soon and we will be able to bring you some reports from the 50 line.

One of the fish that was noticeably absent was the mighty silver king. But they seemed to have also shown up and become a consistent fishery once again. They have been hanging around their usual spots in the bay and beaches.

Soon we will be into our late afternoon black fin tuna trips. These are trips that we do to mainly target black fin tuna. And although we are targeting them we also get kingfish, mahi-mahi and sailfish. So if you get off of work and have a couple hours to kill give me a call and let’s put something together. As has always been my policy if the weather becomes an issue I will return your deposit so that you have nothing to lose. Well that is it for now.

Best of Luck…
