Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The winds of April have hit in May and the fishing that normally is associated with April is now happening in late May. In North Biscayne Bay large schools of pilchards and silver mullet have settled in the Bay for now and large sea trout, jack crevalles, ladyfish, barracudas, snappers, tarpon and sharks have been actively feeding on these baitfish schools. Offshore huge dolphins better known as Mahi Mahi are traveling north along the Gulf Stream and some of these fish have exceeded 60 pounds. Lots of sailfish and blackfin tuna are feeding along the edge as well and kingfish to over 50 pounds have recently been caught outside the reef.

In Flamingo in Everglades National Park redfish and snook have been available along the channels of Florida Bay and along the shorelines of the Gulf of Mexico. Tarpon of all sizes have been eating Hookup lures tipped with Gulp shrimp while my anglers were targeting sea trout, redfish and snook. Mangrove snappers, ladyfish and jacks have kept the anglers busy in between the big fish and limit catches of sea trout to over 20 inches have been easy to come by. Offshore on structure schools of permits have been waiting for a soft tossed crab and lots of blacktip sharks have been feeding in the same areas. Bluefish, mackerel, tripletail and jack, ladyfish and sea trout can be caught in the same areas as well. On y last charter to Flamingo we spotted the first Bald eagle that I have seen in quite some time.

Check out the pictures I have added to this report to see some of the recent catches.

I have recently been wearing a lot of Columbia Sports Wear on my fishing charters and the new Blood & Guts shirts are amazing. I have had mackerel, cobia and snook just splatter me with blood and one good washing and the shirts are as good as new. Check out their web site at www.columbia.com
