Season Shaping Up To Be Good.

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
December 22, 2008
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

With several sailfish tournaments in the Miami area putting up good numbers the season is starting with a bang. Fishing with Dr.Brent Herbert and family we managed to catch a couple of mahi-mahi and go 4/5 on sailfish on a half day charter. On our worst day we had a couple of shots and missed some sails, I guess that is why it's called fishing. But the sailfish are defiantly here and they are biting. Getting multiple shots as you can see is definitely not out of the questions.

The tarpon are also here. We did a trip last week that ended successfully. This is the time of year that the tarpon are found right outside my home port of Bakers Haulover so it is a short run to the fishing grounds. As the year continues the tarpon fishing will only get better and better.

One of the more popular trips that I do is the combo sailfish / tarpon trip where we fish offshore for sailfish and then spend about 4 hours inshore fishing for tarpon. I have already booked several of these trips this year due to the fact that you can get a taste of fishing in Miami.

While fishing for sailfish on the edge we have also caught mahi-mahi, bonito, and kingfish. We have also caught wahoo and there have been reports of cobia in the area although I have not been fortunate enough to run into any of them. We have done several trips and have caught fish on every trip which is almost typical for the fishing this time of year.

For those attending the FedEx BCS Championship Game (Jan 8, 2009) in South Florida "LET'S GO FISHING"!!! While the rest of the country is dealing with bad weather we are enjoying 70 degree weather and great fishing. Give me a call and let's spend a great day out on the water.

As the year comes to a close I would like to thank all my customers who spent the day fishing with me and I look forward seeing you again in the future. May you have a great holiday and a Happy New Year.

Till Next Time

Best of Luck…
