Skipjacks and Bonitas Rule the Sea

Capt. John Barker
October 17, 2013
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

This morning our guests were a family visiting from South America. They booked the Blue Waters II for a morning of fun fishing. So the captain pointed the boat east and soon they were trolling the blue water looking for debris and birds.

The hunt for debris was not bearing any fruit, so the mate switched over to his favorite mylar lures. It was like someone hit the "On" switch. The action started almost immediately. Speedsters, skipjack tunas, were popping and chewing on the lures. The folks had great fun pulling in these tough little critters.

The last hour was spent on the shallow reef looking for groupers and other species. But it appeared as the tunas followed us because we were still catching large and small bonitas. We also caught a kingfish that will make good table fare.

All in all, it was another great family fun fishing trip off Miami.
