Surprisingly Good

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
August 25, 2008
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

That kind of describes the fishing and the fishing business these past couple of weeks. Before tropical storm Fay I had done several trips and I have done another couple of trips after Fay. Luckily the fishing has not let us down. The only bad part is that this report is going to sound very much like my previous post.

On the edge the kingfish bite has been good. The fish are ranging from small fish in the 9# range all the way into the high 20's. I have been catching all my fish between 140 and 200' of water. The flat lines and kites have been producing well. While waiting for the kings to show up the bonitos will keep you entertained and busy. Just make sure that you have plenty of rigs pre-made. The bonitos can get so thick that they can become a nuisance. That is unless you have a couple of kids on board as I did last Saturday then they think it's the greatest thing when 3 rods go off at once.

We have also caught a couple of sails in the past couple of trips. They have been a welcome addition to multiple species days we have been having. The bottom bite has been good with amberjack providing the most consistent bite on the county wrecks.

Dolphin have also made a good showing and we caught several before tropical storm Fay decided to pay us a visit. The fish have been in close in the 500-800' depth and we have caught them in as close 250' so take a look around before you blast offshore and go right past the fish. The good news is that the fish have been on the larger side.

Well that is it for now. If you have someone coming in from out of town or you just want to spend time with your kids give me a try and let's see what kind of day we can put together for you.

Till next Time

Best of Luck…
