Good Tarpon Action Both Outside and Inside in Miami

Capt. Dave Kostyo
December 9, 2015
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The tarpon season is off to a rip, roaring start. You'll find hungry tarpon ready to take your bait both in the ocean and in the bay.

Richard got a very good taste of the action on his 4 hour evening trip. We started in the ocean and caught and released a tarpon on each of our first three drifts. When the tide changed, the fish shut down. It was time to move into the bay.

We fish four different locations in the bay. At the first location we had no action. At the second location we got a very weak hit and no hook up. Third location was the charm. Forty pounds of silver exploded on the bait and after an intense few minutes, Richard had the fish along side for a picture and release.

At the fourth location, I was about to wind in the baits to end the trip when we hooked up with the biggest tarpon of the evening. The tarpon almost got us in to an obstruction, however, Richard put some extra pressure on the fish and turned it's head. Once the tarpon was boat side, it exploded with a couple of jumps and runs before having it's picture taken and then released.

It just goes to show that it's never over until that last bait is pulled out of the water.

Total for the evening was 3 for 3 in the ocean and 2 for 2 in the bay. Not a bad start to the tarpon season.

From now till the end of July seems like a long time, however, the time will fly by very quickly. Don't miss out on the opportunity to catch a tarpon by putting off booking a tarpon trip.

Miami Fishing Forecast:

The tarpon action will only get better and better as we progress into the season. With a cold front or two more, we could even see a good shrimp run. If you're out on evening when this happens, you'll be in for a treat see loads of tarpon blasting the shrimp off the surface in a feeding frenzy.
