Warm Spring Like Conditions & Hot South Florida Fishing!

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
Warm conditions continue to be the norm for South Florida. We did get hit by a couple of good frontal squall lines that brought winds up to 70 miles per hour but very little cold weather was accompanied with these fronts. One thing that has been noticeable recently is that we are experiencing what may be an early Spring run of fish in South Florida.
Lets start with the offshore fishing. Tarpon have been available in decent numbers along the beaches near Government Cut. Most of this action has been late in the afternoon or at night. These are still typical tarpon though feeding for a few minutes and then teasing fishermen during the rest of their charters. A decent run of pompano and Spanish mackerel has been taking place along the South Florida beaches especially on the nastier weather days. On a recent day charter my lien's enjoyed two hours of hot action from a group of 50 to 100 pound spinner sharks. We only got one shark to the boat but had over eight on the line. The sharks made some great runs and spectacular spinning jumps before they disappeared in a flash. King mackerel have been in decent supply with many of these fish being over 10 pounds. Large dolphins have been moving south along the Gulf Stream and have been chasing schools f flying fish. these fish have been ranging in size from five pound fish to over 30 pounds.
In Biscayne Bay North and South my clients have seen some great sea trout action with many of these fish being large females with full bellies of roe. Mixed in with the trout have been ladyfish, jacks and bluefish. The best action has taken place when the weather has been nice. We have had a few daytime snook and some good shots at small tarpon in the bay as well.
Flamingo fishing has been pretty good with spring like conditions making the snook, redfish, sea trout and tarpon happy. Offshore a good number of large Spanish mackerel and tripletail have been keeping Flamingo fishermen busy.
