Bait is lighting the Lagoon up.

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Mosquito lagoon is heating up for reds, trout and tarpon. This time of year the bait pours into the lagoon and starts a feeding frenzy for the players that follow. Finger mullet can be seen and heard getting crunched by reds and trout on the flats. This is a good time to toss the top water plug for a while.
We have been tossing Berkley Gulp jerk shads and Gulp shrimp. I like to use the Gulp shrimp and Jerk shads because the pin and pigfish do not distroy them when they hit them. A real shrimp will last about ten seconds in the pond before it will be chewed by the little critters.
You will spend more time in your live well getting out another bait that on the platform looking for fish.

A few days ago I had a day off and I took my brother ( peter ) fishing. I told him the plan was to get some fish for the fish fry we were to have. We started on the flats where we banged two reds pretty quick. Then we went on to fish trout. I took him to one of my favorite trout spots and on my first cast I caught one about 2.5 #s. Several minutes later we had five fish in the boat.
We caught about thirty trout total. Then I pitched one down the edge of the flat in about three feet of water. My line begun to scream and my brother looked at me and said big red I said no tarpon. A few seconds leaded an 80# tarpon jumped and I was hot on the trolling motor following. I got Peter to get the camera out because I know the dance would not last. I had ten pound leader and a 1/4 oz jig head with a Gulp 5'' Jerk Shad laced on it. But most of our trout bites came from the Bloody color jerk shad. The tarpon was in front of the boat swimming thirty feet away. I pulled the rod low so he would jump and he did, the jig came flying out Pete missed the shot but it was all good.
We also caught ladyfish, triple tail, black drum and jacks this week.
