What is Black and Red all over, The Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
December 13, 2008
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Reds are in the grass as well as the white sand holes. Toss your Gulp shrimp past your targeted sand hole and crank it into it. Let it fall and you should get tapped by pinheads or the reel deal. We took many reds this week with about eight of them over the slot. Big trout are in the sand holes as well. Many small trout are in the deep channels and holes seeking warmth. The temps are going to drop to the low forties then back up in a few days. The water temp in the lagoon was 60ish yesterday. The black drum were in full force this week with tails sticking straight up. Some of the fish were doing head stands for more than twenty seconds then swish the food the drum was looking at just got ate. We fished a school of about two to three hundred this Monday and followed then for hours. The fish are about three to twelve pounds. Try to pitch a Gulp crab at these blacks in the natural color.

Big flounder should be at the inlet, you can bounce a Gulp Jerk Shad or a Gulp Shrimp on the bottom and you should get a few. They eat light so I spool my Abu Garcia Soron STX 20 with 10 # Fire line then you can feel everything, even a fish swimming at you. We took four flounder this week from one to three pounds.
