Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The cold weather can go away any time now, it's no so much that it ‘s so cold but the wind is howling outside. Yard work and this report are the only thing on my mind today (OK and a tournament). A few days ago it was nice and sunny with no wind and the redfish were everywhere. Then we saw quite a few reds on the top of the flat looking for food about mid day. They were a little picky in the morning but the afternoon bite went off. I waited till bite thirty before I went where I knew I would find plenty of other fish. Not that we did not see plenty of fish the first three hours but I waited till my body barometer went off to go to the best spot. It's kinde like getting to a tidal dependent spot when it just starts to move. Toss a weedles rigged Gulp shrimp ahead of the fish and bring it to them slow. If you real it to fast at them it will freak them out and they will look as if they saw T/rex. Try a few different approaches, slow crawling and dead sticking in the frigid water. The trout are in the holes and can be taken on Gulp Jerk shads rigged with a kahyle hook, Jig or weed less. Make them come off the bottom and you will get nailed. Chartreuse and new penny seem to get the best bite now but don‘t be afraid to use a bloody or cherryseed color.

Work some deeper stuff for the trout as well, they will be in like five to eight foot of water. This is where you want to use a jig head with your Gulp, Jerk shad, shrimp or Sinking minnow style bait. Use the same colors mentioned earlier and you should do well. The jetties have plenty of blue fish and sheepshead along with some black drum near the rocks. Cobia season is just around the corner and we will be booking trips for the season on the 25' Hydro Sports. Rigged with two brand new 2010 Evinrude E-Tecs that are so sweet. I bought the Twin 150 Evindude E-Tecs for many reasons but one is. I have been running the snot out of my 150 Evinrude (for 7 years) with out any motor failure. I had to buy motors I could afford to run also, after a long trip offshore the gas usage is a lot less than I use to use.
In this economy I don't know how anglers can afford not to have E-Tec's.
