Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have had a very mild winter so far and I can say I will not complain. With the recent moon phase and a shift in winds last week the water has emptied out of the Lagoon System. The lower water has forced the bait out of the creeks along with the game fish following. Look for schools of redfish to be holding around the bait pods as well as the pods of trout. I like to throw soft plastics and live shrimp early in the morning for tailing redfish. As the sun gets higher I like to switch over to a Aqua Dream Spoon and target them in the potholes. The trout have been very plentiful over the last few weeks and can be targeted in the potholes and holding on the mud flats. I like to throw live finger mullet earlier in the morning then switching over to soft plastics and twitch baits later in the day. The black drum have been pretty plentiful as well. Look for the schools of black drum milling around on the shallow grass flats and shallow bars looking for a easy meal. They have been chewing on blue crab and shrimp very well.
Good luck and be safe!
