Capt. Michael Savedow

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Early spring has arrived to East Central Florida, water temperatures in the upper 60's, warm water fish like Jack Crevalle and Ladyfish are starting to show up after spending the winter in south Florida, seeing the first of the year Manatees arrive in the area. Backcountry fishing has been full of different variety of fish caught, Redfish, Seatrout, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Whiting, Snook, Jacks, Lady's, Bluefish, Mangrove Snapper, plus always a couple of surprise catches like the small Barracuda we caught last week. Redfish and Black Drum schools are still on the flats of Mosquito Lagoon, always a bit more a challenge to hunt shallow water schools in spring time, but a fun sight fishing time. First time client Bill from Alabama came on a solo trip a couple weeks ago when winter was still here, and the water colder and lower, we hunted up a skinny water Redfish school in a back bay, sight catching a half dozen fish up to 24"………………
