January 2015 Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Jan 2015
Mosquito Lagoon, Daytona Beach and New Smyrna beach Fishing Report

The bite has been pretty good here on the Central East Coast of Florida even with the
continuous fronts that have hit us the last couple of weeks. The Redfish are grouping up in large numbers from 10 to almost 100 in a school. Look for them to be holding in the sand holes through out Mosquito lagoon and on the mud flats around the Daytona beach and New Smyrna Beach area.
I have been having great success with ADL spoons and soft plastics.
The trout have been in great numbers through out Mosquito Lagoon with clients boating a lot of trophy size fish. Look for the trout to also hold in the sand holes to gather warmth from the bottom. I like to target them a little later in the morning with the sun gets a little higher using twitch baits, soft plastics and live bait.
We also have some large schools of black drum making residence in the lagoon right now with schools reaching over a hundred. Throwing shrimp and broke blue crab to these fish is always a great choice. Lets not neglect
our little flat friends, The Flounder. We have great numbers of flounder this time of year from New Smyrna Beach south to Mosquito Lagoon. A slow retrieve along the mud or sand bottom with a soft plastic or shrimp on a jig head can almost guarantee you a bite.

Good luck and Be safe !
