June 2012

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

June 2012 fishing forecast

Well the trout bite has been hot in the Mosquito Lagoon we have been catching limits on pig fish in the bait pods with some fish in the 4-7 pound range . We have also done well on artificial baits using skitter walk top waters and 1/4 ounce hook up jigs with paddle tails or 3 inch shrimp . We have really high water now which has moved reds to the shore lines and the grass flats in the back country . You can get good size reds either sight casting with live shrimp or gulps and using cut mullet or lady fish soaked on the edges of sandy areas . The beach and near shore fishing is getting hot and will continue to get better as the bait pods move in . Right now we have spanish and bonita in the bait pods as well tarpon starting to move in . The next few weeks can be a great time to bag a giant Tarpon and get a check off your bucket list . We should also have Cobia showing up on rays and in the bait pods they are great for sight casting and are a wonderful table fair .
