Mosquito Lagoon,New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach Fishing Report
I can not believe it is June already it seems like it was just Christmas! But with June also brings great fishing.We have been having good numbers of tarpon and bonita showing up off the beaches lately. Look for the birds diving on the bait pods and they will be holding under the bait. The tricky part is presenting a bait with out the toothy critters getting it first AKA ( Sharks). I like to ease up with the trolling motor with in casting distance and wait for the shot to present itself. between the bonita,jacks,tarpon and sharks they will eat just about anything from live bait,artificial or cut bait. The inshore bite has been just as good with good numbers of trout and red fish being caught from New Smyrna Bch south to Mosquito lagoon. The trout bite has been best early morning around the schools of finger mullet that can be located on the flats of Mosquito Lagoon. We have been getting great bites on top water then moving to live bait as the day moves on.When the sun gets a little higher it seems as though the bait is moving to the edge of the flats with the trout following in pursuit. This makes for a good time throw live finger mullet,pig fish or pin fish to entice that bite. The redfish have been real
shallow in the early morning cruising the shorelines and oyster bars from Daytona Bch through Edgewater. Further south in Mosquito lagoon the can be found crawling in the shallow grass looking for a easy meal. I like to throw plugs and soft plastics
early then as the day moves on switching to a Aqua Dream Spoon. Another option is live bait starting with shrimp early when they are shallow then moving to mullet,pin fish,pig fish or cut bait as they start to move from the shallows. Just like the trout the red fish are going to follow the bait so if you are not finding good numbers of bait fish in the area move on until you do.
